The Deacon was born in Oak Cliff, Texas he moved to Malta, Texas at the age of 7 where he was raised on a small family farm. His musical interest started at a young age singing in a small Baptist church in Malta. Music came back to him after he got out of the service and was living in Nashville, Tennessee where he joined a small rock band. He then dropped music to raise a family and didn't start singing again until he was brought back to the church and to Christ in a long revealing story and leaving his faults at the alter. It wasn't until he was ordained into ministry that his musical career began to flourish, beginning with gospel then moving on to Blues. His musical influences are; Joe Crocker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, Santana, BB King and Albert King. Something about the Blues drew him into telling stories of life, love, loss, and heartbreak. Life's trials and tribulations while raising a family gave him the inspiration to share his feelings. This slowly evolved into his messages he delivered at Sunday services. From there it grew to private performances, then to public performances. Then one day a band contacted him about singing for them. They had a meeting and it went from there. Then one day Stevie and him was doing a live street performance in the Texarkana, Arkansas area and things began to flow more naturally. He says it was almost like someone else was singing for him. It was like finally his music had a purpose. He says he will never forget the day. That day led up to the formation of Stevie Ray & The Deacon
